About the Northwest Bears

Northwest Bears, one of the first organized bear clubs, was founded in the fall of 1990.  The kickoff event was a potluck, which took place at a local bar and attracted over 100 men.

Northwest Bears is organized as a gay men’s social and service organization.  Its purpose is to provide a focal point within the Gay Community for Bears and Bear admirers.

Traditionally Bears are hairy men, maintain facial hair, and come in all shapes and sizes.  Bears and Bear admirers are as diverse as the gay community itself.  The Club does not practice exclusivity, but fosters a social environment that supports and promotes bonds of loyalty, friendship, and respect.

Bear clubs worldwide now provided Bears and Bear admirers a congenial and friendly atmosphere for social interaction and a means of mobilizing themselves as community social and service organizations.  Northwest Bears strives to fulfill this function in Washington State.

If Northwest Bears is your kind of group, then we invite you to join us for friendship and camaraderie.  Your active participation will create something truly special in the community by working together in brotherhood and having an enjoyable time while doing it.
