NWB Holidays Newsletter

To All
On behalf of the Northwest Bears Board of Directors, I would like to wish each and everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, may your holidays be safe, find you all in good health, and shared with your loved ones and friends.
As I end my board tenure, I thank all of you that supported the club and board over the last two years, we accomplished much on our board agenda, and still have much more to do. I leave the board as an executive member and president for two years; but maintain my club membership and I am chairman of the 2015 Kamp Kodiak event, and have given my word to those continuing on that I am still available for support as needed.
The board of directors took some executive actions at the last board meeting held earlier this month, after extensive and repeated requests for volunteers for board positions and title holders, of which there were few the following actions were taken:
2015 Board of Directors:
The following men have volunteered to continue on as the Northwest Bears Board: Mo Moore, Aaron Butcher, Tim Shay, Kenny Schoenhofen, they are still in need of at least one more member to meet the club bylaws for executive board members. They will hold an executive board meeting to decide amongst themselves who will fill the positions spelled out in the by laws.  The following have volunteered to be ad-hoc members of the board: Steve Dearing - Kamp Kodiak Chairman; Jonathan Jones - Spring Thaw Chairman , Byron Sanborn - Website/Communications.
2015 Mr. Northwest Bear:
With only one application received for title holder, the board reviewed, approved and voted what we considered the most qualified candidate Scott Lindauer - the 2015 Mr. Northwest Bear.  Please give him the support and congratulations when you see him, in his support and representation of the club. A more public recognition will be conducted early next year when all logistics are finalized.
There is no title holder for cub this coming year.
2015 Pride Parade:
The board has registered the club as contingent in the 2015 parade more details will follow, Seattle Pride weekend is June 26-28 2015, the parade is 11 am June 28th.
These actions were required and taken, regardless of the rules spelled out in by-laws, by the board in the best interest of the club.  Honestly the lack of participation at called membership meetings and requests for volunteers forced our hands for these actions, or let the club suffer.  There is no spelled out agenda for closing this club do to lack of participation; and the men mentioned above are worthy of all our support and participation in attempting to keep that from happening. And there are a small band of regular supporters that have kept us energized and running with their dedication, but with membership approaching almost 200 men its not enough.  We have so much to share with our community, our members, our friends but we need you to be more involved.  My last message to you all, is spare some time next year to help in all the clubs events and activities, small or large. If your personal friends/group are not involved invite them to help you with one activity. It does not matter which bar you frequent, which part of the bear community you associate or identify with, what your personal clique, agenda or likes are.  Stop waiting for someone else to volunteer.
I can honestly tell you this club will not survive without YOU!
Best Wishes Always
Steve Dearing
NWBears President 2013-2014
